A fantastic season in 08/09 has secured us promotion back into Surrey 2 this season and we look forward to continuing this upward spiral as well as avenging many of those marginal defeats inflicted upon us in the 07/08 season.
The mood of the club is positive and once again our first XV will be looking to secure promotion. The commitment of the players to training and the league programme last season produced the desired result – let’s hope that continued efforts produce similar results.
Special thanks to Steve O’Shea who has captained us for the last three years and stuck with the programme despite several knock backs. It is a testimony to his character and we wish him all the best for the future season without having to carry those heavy chains of office!
Also thanks to our coaching team – Simon Dear, Tony Chapman and Adrian Walton who have put in a huge amount of effort to bring the squads on and will continue to do so in the forthcoming season – good luck guys!
I would like to wish Richard Flynn – this seasons Club Captain – and all the other officers of the club, my sincere thanks for stepping up as well as my best wishes for the season. As a club we rely heavily on the support of our members and will always need both players as well as volunteers for the many onerous duties that make the club function – please ensure that you too step up and volunteer for the many positions that remain unfilled!
The club also relies heavily on the subs received from both playing members and non-playing members alike. With our numbers swelling and the commitments we have as a club it is critical that all “members” ensure that they are paying regular monthly subs. If we are to continue to offer coaching facilities, physios and the entire background infrastructure that goes with this we must INSIST that subs are paid. Direct debit mandates are available on the internet and with internet banking readily available you have no excuse not to be a fully paid up member! You will also run the risk of not being adequately insured if you are not paying your subs – so do it now!
Good luck to all our teams - we very much hope to see a third XV trotting out this season – enjoy your rugby and being part of the Blues.
Once again have plans afoot for a great social season and hope these will be well supported by young and old!
The clubhouse will have been spruced up over the summer months and continued improvement to all the pitches will ensure that our facilities remain the envy of many. I hope many of you will be able to come and add your support to and we look forward to welcoming you all for another great season for THE BLUES.
