Old Blues vs Raynes Park

The Old Blues suffered their first league defeat of the season after losing narrowly to local rivals Raynes Park. In a closely contested battle both teams sought to establish dominance and Raynes Park were the first to make the breakthrough when they touched down after a well taken chip and chase. The first half finished with Raynes Park 7-0 up and the Blues seeming strangely lifeless. The second half opened with Raynes Park breaking through the Old Blues line and extending their lead to 14-0. It was then the Blues finally seemed to wake up and start putting together some phases and securing decent ball against a canny back row. The Blues managed to cross the Raynes Park line twice but failed to convert both tries. That, as well as a couple of other missed kicks was to prove costly as the final whistle went with the score board reading 14-12 to Raynes Park. As the old cliché says, this was a game of two halves but the Blues will need to sharpen up at the breakdown if they are serious about competing in this league. It wasn’t all bad news though, Rob “the Hulk” Huckin had another outstanding game with a rousing HdM performance at no.7.
