Old Blues vs Cheeky Ladies

The Old Blues welcomed Cheeky Ladies London RFC to Motspur Park as part of a pre-season programme of matches designed to get us back to the high standards that we set ourselves last season. Cheeky Ladies strolled through Surrey Four as champions last year so we knew it was going to be tough; however, a valuable lesson was learned as the Blues were played off the park by a strong and quick visiting team. The match started - as pre-season matches tend to - at a hundred miles an hour, but both teams managed to assert their scramble defence and as such we were scoreless for the first half hour. However, the danger presented by the CL back line was obvious, and as we tired moving into the end of the half, we conceded two quick tries to go into the break 10-0 down. The second half saw a spirited fightback and we put together ten minutes of dominance which resulted in a try for Old Blues hooker Jhan Burger, but defensive lapses again in the last ten minutes saw the Cheeky Ladies score two more; the match finished 22-7. A valuable lesson learned which will hopefully stand us in good stead for the rest of the season
