Old Blues vs Old Rutlishian
The league continued apace down at Old Ruts, and with confidence high after two good wins, the Blues took the field with an (initial) energy and vigour which blew Ruts off the park. With two minutes on the clock, Avron Cunningham touched down the first try for the Old Blues following pressure down the left hand side. The width of the Ruts pitch worked in favour of the Blues backline, and more scores followed before Ruts decided to try to play the ball upfront where they had a clear size advantage. Pressure in our 22, allied with an injured defender clogging the midfield) led to the Ruts flyhalf scampering in for a try under the post, but the missed conversion surely told the Ruts team that it wasn't to be their day. The second half was a terrible advert for the game of rugby as Ruts tried to rumble things up front and both sides made mistake after mistake. It wasn't until the final 15 minutes that we opened up the game with further tries coming from Kobby Yeboah, James Mitra and Mike Gray. A good win but not a good performance from the Blues, with honourable mentions to the returning Gethyn Deakins and man of the match Hugh Wigzell in the back row.
