Old Blues vs Old Oundelians
The Old Blues kicked off the 2008/09 season with a hard fought win
against a well drilled Oundelians side in Motpsur Park yesterday.
The Blues got off to dream start combining some slick passing with an
Oundelian defensive lapse to run the ball under the post in the first minute
and managed to touch down twice more in a fast paced first half.
The second half began with a period of sustained pressure by Oundelians, led
by a very effective back row and combining well to bring them back in range
with thirteen unanswered points. There may have been fears that this might
turn into another one of those days where the result might slip away from
us, but the second Oundelian try was clearly the kick in the ass the Blues
needed and they rallied impressively to score two more tries in the final
quarter. However, the Oundelians refused to bow and the final minutes of the
game saw another sustained assault on the Old Blues line and the match ended
with another Oundelian try - final score 29-18.
The Blues still have plenty to work on but it was a good all round effort
and especially so from Graeme Humphreys, who marked his 1st XV debut with a
man-of-the-match winning performance.
Next week the Old Blues will be looking to maintain their league momentum
when they host Worth Old Boys.
