Old Blues vs Haslemere
After some confusion about fixtures and dates, the Old Blues were sent down the A3 to Haslemere. The Old Blues were wary as Haslemere had proved a tough nut to crack on our previous encounter and a couple of absentees meant we were playing with a slightly re-jigged line up. This was reflected by the relatively slow start as it took about 20 mins for the Blues to settle into things and for things to click properly. Once they did, the backs started to move the ball around well and combined beautifully to unlock the Haslemere defence for the first try. A well worked move off an Old Blues line out and again off the back of a 5m scrum saw the Blues go into the half time break 21-0 up. In the second half, the Blues upped the ante applying visibly more pressure at the breakdown and this increased focus on counter rucking started to produced dividends as the Blues started to turn over ball, which was just as well as the scrum wasn’t enjoying the dominance it had in previous weeks. However, the Blues managed to stick it out and ran in fairly convincing winners in the end with a final score of 47-0. Another good all round performance by the Blues especially considering we had a couple of debuts and a new 10-12 partnership. The HdM tankard went to Michael Gray who capped a cracking game at scrum-half with two brilliantly taken tries. Next week the Blues take on Brighton in round 7 of the Junior Vase.
