Old Blues vs Old Oundelians

The Old Blues headed down the A3 to Old Oundelians on Saturday as they looked to keep their league campaign on track. The Old Blues came into this game pretty focused knowing that Oundelians ran us close at the start of the season. The game started well for the Blues who showed good discipline in sticking to our structure and game plan to allow us to run in two tries, both converted, to go 14-0 up. However the Oundelians continued to probe the Blues defence and ran in a good try under the posts off the back of a quick-tap penalty. The Blues responded well by going over for another two tries with the Oundelians responding with a penalty kick. Half time came with the Blues leading 28-10. The second half saw the Blues calm things down a little and play with a little more nous. This quickly started to pay dividends as the Oundelians defence was unlocked and the Blues ran in another try in the first couple of minutes of the second half. The Blues really got motoring then with the pack enjoying a very good day at the scrum and lineout and the back line able to take advantage of plenty of clean, quick ball. The Oundelians continued to press and took advantage of some sloppy play by the Blues to run in a further try of an intercept pass. However, the result had been guaranteed at that stage and the final whistle went with the Old Blues convincing winners at 69-15. A cracking result and a very good performance from the Blues with lots of good interlinking and phase play to keep the travelling supporters happy. It was so tough to pick out a man of the match, we decided to pick two and the tankard was awarded jointly to Avron Cunningham and Jonathan Bound. Next week the Blues are back at Motspur Park for the crunch league/Bowl double header against Raynes Park.
