Old Blues vs Worth Old Boys

The Old Blues maintained their bright start to the 2008/09 season with another hard fought win against Worth Old Boys in the magnificent surroundings of Christ’s Hospital. Despite the heat, the game was played at a fairly hectic pace from the kick off. There was plenty of end to end action as both teams sought to take advantage of the conditions and get the ball wide and play some running rugby. The Blues took an early lead with a penalty kick about 5 minutes in and managed to build on this with a well worked try around the half hour mark, leaving the half-time score 10-0. It was clear that the next score of the game would go some way to deciding the result and both sides were going all out. But it was the Blues who managed to break the opposition lines first, punching through the Worth line to touch down under the posts. Another Blues try a few minutes later seemed to secure the result but the Worth refused to roll over and launched an all out attack on the Blues line, finally managing to touch down during the final play of the game. Final score 22-5. Another good all round performance from the Blues with the backs and forwards combining well as the game went on and the pack enjoying dominance scrum despite the line out failing to fire. Man of the match went to Alex Demenis who had an outstanding game at no.8.
