Old Blues vs United Services Portsmouth RFC

The Old Blues were up bright and early on Saturday morning as they had to head of down south for Round 4 of the cup against US Portsmouth. Some good prep and good pre-match chat helped make sure that the Blues were fired up and from the kick off they launched into one of the finest displays given so far this season. It’s very hard to pin point anything in particular. This was one of those days when it just clicked and despite the powerful US maul and a good battle at the lineout, the Blues went in to the half –time break leading by 37-3. The second half was always going to be a lower tempo affair and the US boys tightened things up considerably and broke through the Blues defence in the third quarter. Some fresh legs were introduced for the final quarter and the Blues ran in two more tries to leave the final score at 52-10 to the Blues. It was an excellent performance by the Blues who were clearly up for this one from the start and especially by Mike Gray who had an outstanding game and was rightly awarded HdM. A cracking result was made all the more enjoyable by some top banter and serious pinting with the US boys in the clubhouse afterwards. Cheers boys and we promise to have some more songs in the bag next time…
