Old Blues vs London Media

The picturesque setting of Battersea Park was the venue for the Blues' match against London Media, and a better Autumn day for rugby could not have greeted us. The preparation started well and when Media asked us if they could borrow a ball to warm up with, we could have been forgiven for thinking that their lack of preparation would stand against them. In reality, they gave us a hell of a fight. The game was played predominantly up front and the Media pack were no mugs; they disrupted our ruck ball and managed to put pressure on our lineout. It took some time to make a breakthrough but eventually the back line started seeing a bit more of the ball and James Mitra crossed for a score. The pitch was particularly short which meant that once a line break was made (by either side) the pressure would soon tell, and soon breaks from Mike Gray at 9, Kobby Yeboah on the wing and Avron Cunningham at 15 saw more scores for the Blues. The battle up front was still raging with No 8 Jon Bound and flanker Peter Sharpe leading the way. However, as the match finished 36-12 in the Blues favour, it was difficult for anyone to argue with the Homme du Match decision - prop John White put in a mountain of work in the loose and the tight and fully deserved the nod.
