Old Blues vs Footscray
The Old Blues got their latest cup campaign off to a magnificent start at Motspur Park with a comprehensive win over Footscray RFC from Kent. The perfect weather conditions set things up for some “champagne” football and despite the best efforts of the referee, who was implementing some newly defined interpretations from Twickenham, the Blues combined well throughout the game to run in a brace of excellent scores. The boys from Footscray never stopped trying and, with the final pass letting them down, were unlucky not to cross the line themselves a couple of times. The result was effectively sealed in the early stages of the second half which left both side plenty of time to figure out what the hell we were meant to be doing at the breakdown. Alas, we failed. Nevertheless a fine Old Blues performance was epitomised by the Blond Bombshell Patrick Thorp who capped a man of the match winning performance with an excellent try right at the death. Final score 74-0.
