Old Blues vs Reigate
The Old Blues were back at Motpsur Park on Saturday as we looked to keep our league campaign on track after last week’s cup exit. Recent results suggested that Reigate have been struggling this season but, having been in a similar position ourselves recently, the Blues were not going to take anything for granted. The Blues started brightly and scored a number of tries in fairly quick succession in the first quarter. The main positive, other than steadily increasing score line was the discipline demonstrated by the Blues as they continued to stick to their game plan and play with structure. By half time, it was pretty clear that we had secured the win, especially when the Blues ran in another try in the opening minutes. However, you have to take your hat off to Reigate who refused to let their heads bow and stuck to the task in hand, recycling well and taking advantage of some broken play to punch through the blues defence and score the first league try conceded by the Blues since October. This seemed to serve as an alarm call to the Blues who started to play with a bit more structure and ran in three more tries in the final quarter to run out winners by 74-5. It was a great result for the Blues with the entire squad playing well to secure another precious 2 points. HdM went to Gethyn “Deaksie” Deakins who seemed to be everywhere and played a stormer at blindside flanker.
