Old Blues vs Mitcham

The Old Blues were back at Motspur Park on Saturday playing host to our old friends from Mitcham RFC. There might have been some nervousness at how this game might go given the previous week’s performance. However, the bollockings at half-time, in the dressing room and at training obviously paid off as a visibly fired up Old Blues team took to the field. From the start the Blues seemed to be in control with the backs able to run some cracking lines off the back of an excellent platform provided by an Old Blues pack enjoying increasing dominance at the set piece. The Old Blues managed to break through the Mitcham defence quite early and this set the tone for the half as the Blues ran in three more tries to go in at the break 20 points up. The second half saw the Blues start strongly however, we didn’t have it all our own way as Mitcham started to turn up the heat and enjoyed a period of sustained pressure for about 10 mins. Once again, the Old Blues defence held firm and another try with about 20mins left on the clock sealed the result. The final try, touched down under the posts, was brilliantly converted with the last kick of the game by Kobby to give the Blues an excellent 42-0 victory. It was a great all round performance by the Blues who obviously took on board the lessons from the previous week. Strong at the set piece and aggressive in defence, the day was epitomised by man of the match Peter Sharpe who quite simply played a blinder.
